Trained as a biologist, Purificación López-García is interested in the origins and major diversifications of life on Earth. With her DEEM research team, within the Ecology, Societies, Evolution laboratory (AgroParisTech/CNRS/Université Paris-Saclay), she studies the diversity, ecology and evolution of microorganisms from the three domains of life (archaea, bacteria, eukaryotes) in little-explored and often extreme natural ecosystems, using a variety of classical and molecular tools: metabarcoding, (meta)genomics, phylogenomics.
Purificación López-García was elected in 2024 to the Integrative Biology section.
