Physicist and director of research at Inserm, a specialist in the use of waves in medicine and biology, Mickael Tanter devotes his research to the invention of new non-intrusive imaging and therapy concepts using ultrasound waves in particular. Founder and director until 2024 of the Institut de Physique pour la Médecine de Paris at ESPCI-PSL, he has co-invented several imaging methods used worldwide in medicine and biomedical research in fields ranging from cancer diagnosis and cardiovascular pathologies to non-invasive treatment of heart valves and neuroscience. Beyond medical applications, he is developing new imaging modalities enabling a better fundamental understanding of the physical phenomena of the human body and especially the brain.

Mickael Tanter was elected Academician in 2024 in the section of Human Biology and Medical Sciences.
