The study of biological phenomena is a vast and rapidly advancing research topic, at the crossroads of
physics, mechanics, mathematics, computational science and, of course, biology and medicine. The
development of this field of research is based on the enormous progress made recently in the acquisition of
quantitative data in living cells and tissues, and on the introduction of new concepts concerning non-
equilibrium systems. This field sheds new light on the morphodynamics of living systems across scales,
ranging from cell function and movement to collective behavior, embryo and organ formation.
Through a number of highly interdisciplinary presentations, this meeting will showcase some of the recent
and exciting advances.
