Welcomed by Patrice Baudevin, IA-IPR de Sciences de la vie et de la Terre, the students had the opportunity to exchange with Claude Jaupart, member of the Académie des sciences, who came to present the way scientists study seismic and volcanic risks in France today. His talk provided an insight into the methods used by geologists and volcanologists, from earthquake analysis to the monitoring of volcanic zones, both in mainland France and on a regional scale.

During his talk, a lively dialogue began with the high school students, around questions on the origin of earthquakes, volcanic eruption forecasting, means of protecting populations and the role of scientific research in assessing natural risks.

A fascinating conference, which combined scientific rigor and pedagogy, and which is fully in line with the objectives of this new edition of the program.

🎥 The full recording will soon be available on the YouTube channels of the Institut de France and the Rectorat de Paris.
