Biography

Laurent Degos has dedicated his research to public health, genetics, oncology and hematology. The transformation of the malignant cell into a quasi-normal cell (targeted therapy by differentiation of the malignant cell of acute promyelocytic leukemia) was his main discovery made with Wang Zhen Yi (Shanghai). Kettering Prize from the General Motors Foundation (Washington, 1994). He was also involved in the HLA genetic discovery with Jean Dausset Nobel Prize 1980 (theoretical study of linkage disequilibrium in population genetics) and in the first descriptions of platelet molecules currently targeted by anti-thrombosis drugs.
