Biography
Jean-Claude ANDRE has devoted his research to fluid dynamics and turbulence, and their applications to meteorology, oceanography and climate. He has developed new high-order methods for numerical modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer and the surface ocean. He has organized numerous in-situ measurement campaigns, first in Antarctica to study katabatic winds, then in France and Niger to study soil-vegetation-atmosphere interactions. He has contributed to the application of supercomputing methods and better use of supercomputers in many fields of industrial interest.
He was the first director of the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (CNRM), then director of the Centre Européen de Recherche et de Formation Avancée en Calcul Scientifique (CERFACS).
