Biography

CNRS Research Director at the Institute for Research in Fundamental Computer Science (Paris), Claire Mathieu works in theoretical computer science, on algorithm design and analysis. Her area of specialization concerns approximate algorithms for difficult NP combinatorial optimization problems. She is currently particularly interested in societal algorithms and the modification of evaluation criteria necessitated by their impact on people. As an example, she has proposed a model for the glass ceiling phenomenon for women in collaborations between PhD students and supervisors. She was also involved in designing the algorithms of the Parcoursup platform for assigning baccalaureate holders to higher education courses.
