As described in Articles 2 and 3 of its Statutes (see Annex 1), one of the missions of the Académie des sciences is to study and make recommendations on scientific and technical issues. It may carry out expertises when the nature of the question addressed to it, or taken up on its own initiative, justifies it. It should be noted that not all notices and publications by the Académie constitute an expertise according to the definitions in Annex II [...]
The 20th March 2012, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has decided to award the Abel Prize for 2013 to Pierre DELIGNE, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey, USA, "for seminal contributions to algebraic geometry and for their transformative impact on number theory, representation theory, and related fields". Pierre DELIGNE is Foreign Associate Members of the French Académie des sciences.

The 11th December 2012, Philippe TAQUET is elected President and Bernard MEUNIER is elected Vice-President of the French Académie des sciences for 2013-2014.
Alain CARPENTIER, President of the French Académie des sciences and Daniel RICQUIER, Vice-President Foreign Secretary, participate in the International Conference on the Impact of the Nuclear Plant Accident held on 10 October in Tokyo and organized by the InterAcademy Council and the Science Council of Japan.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Medal for the year 2013 is awarded to Alain CARPENTIER, President of the French Académie des sciences. The Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Medal has been awarded since 1990 for making contributions to international cooperation and public understanding in Science and Technology. This is the most prestigious international award of the lndian National Science Academy bestowed upon to distinguished foreign scientists of lnternational fame.

Image de microscopie électronique à balayage de nanotubes de carbone (NTC) synthétisés par la méthode dite par CCVD (Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition) sur un substrat d'alumine texturée dopée au fer préparée par la technique de templated grain growth (TGG). Les NTC sont orientés le long des marches cristallines du substrat. Applications potentielles à long terme, en recherche fondamentale, dans le domaine des nanodispositifs. L'échelle donnée par le nanotube est de l'ordre d'un micromètre.
