Welcome to the GEC website
"Global Environmental Changes" (GEC) is a group of experts, with a very broad range of expertise, from public and private organizations, leading global change research activities. It is managed by Hervé Le Treut, from the Academy of Sciences and CNFCG (Comité National Français sur le Changement Global) which is the French body representative of the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) international program. The members of the consortium are highly multi-disciplinary, with expertise in physics and chemistry, ecology, agronomy, biogeochemistry, economy, policy and social sciences. In order to provide the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) with the capability to launch a research program on GEC, the consortium identified 4 main themes that will be investigated within this "Foresight workgroup" (ARP : Atelier de Réflexion Prospective) :
-
Land management
-
Biodiversity and marine and land ecosystem vulnerability
-
Water ressources and global feeding
- Global development alternative under environmental constraints
For each of these 4 themes, the group will adopt a multidisciplinary, global and systemic approach. The focus will be in policy aggregation up to the global scalme, but also on aggregation of policies from different, and potentially conflicting angles. Traditional approaches have been tackled in previous calls from ANR or GICC, and hence, will not be investigated here. The aim of this ARP is to contribute to the elaboration of a future ANR program, to define the key components based on both a survey on the state of the art of the French and international research in the field of GEC, and on an identification of the major area of fundamental research needeed here.
