Magdi
Yacoub, né le 16 novembre 1935 en Égypte, de nationalités
égyptienne et britannique, Professeur de chirurgie cardio-thoracique
à lImperial College, est considéré
comme lun des meilleurs spécialistes internationaux
de la transplantation dorganes. Chirurgien hors pair, il
dirige à Londres le Magdi Yacoub Research Institute et
a réalisé le plus grand nombre de transplantations
cardiaques et pulmonaires au monde. C'est aussi un chercheur éminent
à qui l'on doit des contributions majeures concernant la
biologie des valves cardiaques et des transplantations. Soucieux
de renforcer les liens entre pays du Nord et du Sud, il anime
des programmes chirurgicaux et de recherche épidémiologique
au Mozambique, dans le Sud de lÉgypte et à
Alexandrie.
Sir
Magdi Yacoub, Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, National Heart
and Lung Institute, Imperial College Faculty of Medicine, is considered
as one of the best international experts of organ transplantation.
Head of the Magdi Yacoub Research Institute in London, he is an
outstanding surgeon who has performed the largest number of cardiac
and pulmonary transplantations in the world. Magdi Yacoub is also
a distinguished scientist who brought major contributions to the
biology of cardiac valves and of transplantations. In order to
reinforce the links between Northern and Southern countries, Magdi
Yacoub has developed surgical and epidemiological programmes in
Mozambic, South Egypt and Alexandria.
